Anne Hathaway's captivating performance in "Mother Mary" was deeply inspired by her dear friend, Jessica Chastain. The 43-year-old actress showcases a haunting dance routine in this new psychological drama-thriller film, and she has revealed that it was Jessica, her showbiz companion, who ignited the spark for her dance moves. The Oscar-winning star, who co-stars alongside an impressive cast including Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, and FKA Twigs, told Entertainment Weekly, "I must give a shoutout to Jessica Chastain. When she performed 'A Doll's House,' she did a danse macabre on stage that I saw right before I began filming. It was truly mind-blowing and pushed me to go even deeper than I had anticipated."

Anne claimed that the key to her performance was mastering the art of appearing "possessed" while dancing. The Princess Diaries actress explained, "It's not just about the performance; it's about looking like something else is controlling you, as if you are actually being possessed by something."

Anne also recently revealed that she reached out to Charli XCX in preparation for "Mother Mary." The actress plays the titular character in the new movie, which explores the psychosexual relationship between pop singer Mary and fashion designer Sam. The Devil Wears Prada star candidly shared that she contacted Charli to gain insights into her role. Anne told PEOPLE magazine at the time, "The person I spoke to was Charli... I wanted to discuss the music she wrote, which I would be performing. But I also had many questions about her life and what it's like to be a pop star."
