As the electorate eagerly queues up to cast their precious votes on Election Day, Anne Hathaway lends her voice to a cheerful tune, urging them on with a lively melody. On Tuesday, the Oscar-winning actress took to Instagram, her platform of choice, to inspire college students – with a special mention to those in Pennsylvania – to persevere in their voting endeavors, despite the seemingly interminable lines. She did so by creating her own version of Sabrina Carpenter’s catchy hit, “Please Please Please.”
With a pair of sunglasses perched atop her head, Hathaway began, “Hey everybody, I’ve heard there are insanely long queues at college campuses. Oh my gosh, you guys, thank you so much for making the effort to vote!” And then, she broke into her rendition of the song. “If you’re currently standing in line, let me say: Please, please, please, stay in the line / Please, please, please, especially at UPenn and Temple, just wait your turn patiently / Voting is a wonderful yet sometimes tedious task / You’ve waited this long, let’s make it a memorable one / Oh please, please, please, hold the line.”
The actress of “The Idea of You” added a heartfelt caption, “Whoa… hearing about the excessively long lines at colleges and universities across the nation, but especially in Pennsylvania. Please stay in line! … MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you’re in line before the polls close, remain there, even after they officially shut. The polls will stay open until everyone in that line has cast their vote! These are your rights! Thank you, voters!”
Hathaway is one of many celebrities who remind the public to vote on Election Day. Actor Paul Rudd also made a surprise appearance at Temple University in Pennsylvania, distributing water to those waiting in line to vote.
As for Carpenter, she has been actively involved in voter registration efforts leading up to the 2024 presidential election. It was revealed that during her Short n’ Sweet tour, the singer had registered more voters than any other artist.
