Emil Wakim has bid his final goodnights on the iconic stage of Saturday Night Live. After a single, yet memorable season on Lorne Michaels' legendary sketch comedy show, the comedian announced that he would not be reprising his role in the upcoming 51st season of the NBC staple.
"I won't be returning to SNL next year," Emil penned on Instagram on August 27, tinged with a note of finality. "Receiving that call was a harsh blow, but I am immensely grateful for the time I spent there."
Recounting the moment he received the news, Emil shared, "I was amidst the excitement of celebrating my friend's 36th birthday at Six Flags. I embarked on an emotional stroll through Bugs Bunny Park, gazing out over Daffy Duck Lake, lost in thought about life's twists and turns."
Although his journey in Studio 8H has come to a close, the 27-year-old fondly reflected on the cherished memories crafted within the walls of 30 Rock. "Every time I swiped my card to enter the building, I'd marvel at the surreal reality of working there," he mused. "It was the most daunting, exhilarating, and fulfilling experience of my life. I will miss it dearly, along with the brilliant minds who made it a home away from home. Thank you, Lorne, for taking a leap of faith on me and forever altering the course of my life."
Emil added, "I was fortunate enough to bring a piece of myself to the show and voice what I believed in. I eagerly anticipate whatever new chapter lies ahead, dedicated to creating art without compromise."
E! News reached out to SNL for comment, but as of yet, there has been no response.
The poignant news of Emil's departure follows closely on the heels of fellow cast member Devon Walker's announcement, just two days prior, that he too had left the show after three seasons. Alongside an array of behind-the-scenes snapshots from his tenure, the 34-year-old posted on Instagram, "Me and baby broke up."
Devon, renowned for his spot-on impressions of Michael Strahan, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and more, elaborated on his decision to part ways. "We, the show and I, shared three years together—sometimes thrilling, sometimes toxic as hell," he penned. "But we made the most of it, amidst all the dysfunction, crafting a peculiar yet cherished family."
Looking ahead, Devon hinted at upcoming travels and a potential career shift. "I'm off to Japan next," he continued. "Upon my return, I aspire to venture into a prestigious drama series, ideally alongside Julianne Moore. Here's to staying hydrated and making those dollars rain!"
