Ariana Grande continues to draw fashion inspiration from her Wicked character, Glinda the Good Witch, with a dazzling display at the 36th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards. The 31-year-old star of Wicked, who is also a Golden Globe nominee, stunned the red carpet in a strapless silver metallic ballgown adorned with horizontal paneling that cascaded gracefully from her bodice to the voluminous skirt, resembling the oversized, bubble-like mode of transportation her character utilized in the film.
The full skirt cinched tightly at her waist, showcasing her white patent leather pointed-toe pumps peeking through. Grande kept her accessories minimalist yet luxurious, adorned with a sparkling diamond choker necklace, stud earrings, and a ring on her index finger.
The Eternal Sunshine singer allowed the dress to steal the spotlight by keeping her glam simple. Her blonde hair was styled in a sleek bun, with her Audrey Hepburn-inspired bangs swept to the side. Her makeup featured a subtle ivory matte eyeshadow and a nude pink glossy lip, adding to her enchanting charm.
Grande was joined by Wicked director Jon M. Chu on the carpet. The director of Step Up sported a dark navy blue suit and brown leather loafers, adding a touch of sophistication to the red carpet.
Grande wasn't the only Wicked star to make an appearance. Her costar, Cynthia Erivo, also attended the Palm Springs event, wearing a breathtaking backless halter gown with a deep v-neckline accentuated by bright white lapels. The Tony winner complemented her gown with pearl jewelry, including dangling earrings and silver and pearl rings.
During their press tour for the Wicked film, Grande and Erivo embraced their roles as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, by dressing in shades that reflected their characters. Grande was so dedicated to her role that she even curated a Glinda-inspired wardrobe in anticipation of landing the part.
In an exclusive clip from the Wicked digital home release, Grande admitted to having a portion of her closet dedicated to pink tops and other items, just in case she secured the role. "I was like, 'What underwear would Glinda wear today?'" Grande joked.
While Grande hasn't shared whether she's expanded her Glinda-inspired wardrobe, she told Variety that she's maintained her Glinda glam and blonde eyebrows throughout the press tour. "And, you know, I'm still looking for my eyebrows," she joked in the interview published on Thursday. "I'll let you know if I find them — I hope I don't."
