Barbie Ferreira has never been happier. The Euphoria alum revealed the real reason she left the HBO series after two seasons portraying Kat—and it wasn't because of a feud with creator Sam Levinson, despite persistent rumors to the contrary. "It wasn't dramatic," she said on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast on April 14th. "In fact, it was the opposite of dramatic. It was a long process of weighing the pros and cons, wondering if this was truly the right fit for me. We had conversations, and we tried to figure out how to make Kat a fully fleshed-out character, but it just wasn't going anywhere."

She continued, "Since we couldn't find anything that resonated and we couldn't land on anything substantial, I thought, 'Let me just go. Let me go do my thing.'" The Faces of Death actress said it wasn't worth staying on "the biggest TV show on earth" if she didn't feel like she had the right material to work with. "I would rather do an indie movie," she explained. "Where I'm acting, flexing my muscles, and being creatively challenged to do things rather than just being a background character."

After years of persistent rumors that she and Sam didn't get along, Barbie once again emphasized that there was no drama. "It wasn't like I woke up one day angry," she clarified. "It was a very long and arduous process of processing and weighing the pros and cons, seeing what was going to happen, and at the end of the day, realizing that I believe in myself as an actress and I want to see my career look a little differently than this. It's okay if it's not like the hit TV show."

Now, Barbie is leading two recently-released indie vehicles, Faces of Death and Mile End Kicks, the latter of which she also produced. "I do indie movies that are literally made on a shoestring budget," she joked. "But it's cool and real stories. And I'd rather that than kind of be a second thought."
