Negativity holds no sway over Bebe Rexha. This week, a viral clip from her recent Instagram Live stream, capturing her poised response to a body-shaming remark, sparked online chatter. On February 27th, she addressed the furore, reassuring her fans that she was utterly "unfazed" by the online hubbub.
While in Dubai for a benevolent performance, Rexha engaged with her audience live on Instagram, aloud reading comments, among them a cruel quip comparing her to "Marilyn Monroe after dining on Lizzo." Gasps echoed through the room as she read the comment, to which the Grammy-nominated artist responded with, "Honestly, who gives a damn? That's just a hater, someone bored stiff with their existence."
A screen recording of the live session swiftly made the rounds online, prompting Rexha to post a front-facing video on Instagram Stories. "I've just returned from Dubai, where I performed at a magnificent charity event. It was breathtaking," she began, noting that it had been ages since her last live interaction.
"Last night, upon my return, my friends asked, 'Have you seen the clip going viral?' So, I checked it out, perused the comments out of curiosity," she recounted. "You all were wonderfully kind and supportive. But I need to share a couple of thoughts."
"Firstly, I am utterly unperturbed. Secondly, I am acutely aware of everything around me. I'm aware of the weight I've gained, the struggles I've endured, and the fact that while people may know my songs, they don't truly know me. Recognition has eluded me," she continued.
"But rather than allowing these factors to bring me down, they've empowered me," she declared emphatically. "I've been busy crafting new music, infusing it with my experiences."
Rexha concluded her message by urging fans not to feel sorry for her. "I assure you, I've never felt stronger," she said affectionately. "And I love you all."
In a May 2024 interview with PEOPLE, the "Meant to Be" singer opened up about embracing a "new chapter" in her musical journey, exuding "confidence" and "comfort."
"Over the past few years, I've been through so much that remains unknown to many. I've finally achieved inner peace with numerous aspects of my life. I feel exhilarated, alive," she revealed.
At the time, Rexha also spoke of her "extensive therapy" post-breakup and her dedication to physical fitness. "I've been exercising rigorously and indulging in activities that nurture me, bring me joy," she shared.
"Clothes fitting better makes you feel sexier, happier," added Rexha, who was captured enjoying a cozy moment with her boyfriend Simos Liakos during an August 2024 trip to Italy.
