'BEEF' Season 2: Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny Cast Feuding Couple

Published: Aug 22 2024

Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny have officially signed on to ignite a fiery "BEEF" in the second season of the acclaimed Netflix series. Back in February, whispers emerged that the duo, with Melton known for his roles in 'Riverdale' and 'May December,' and Spaeny shining in 'Devs,' 'Civil War,' and currently starring in 'Alien: Romulus,' were being considered to portray one of the feuding couples at the heart of this dark comedy's sophomore run. (Rumors also circulated about Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, former co-stars of 'Brokeback Mountain' and 'Love and Other Drugs,' potentially joining as the other couple, but those whispers have since faded into silence.)

In separate interviews, both Melton and Spaeny couldn't contain their enthusiasm for their upcoming "BEEF" gigs, even as Netflix remained tight-lipped about the official casting announcements or the greenlight for a second season. "It's a script that's among the finest I've ever laid eyes on," Melton enthused to VMAN, referring to his Season 2 role. "I'm beyond thrilled. It's all about to unfold very soon."

Meanwhile, Spaeny, in a recent New York Times profile, revealed that she'll dive into the "BEEF" fray right after wrapping up Netflix's eagerly anticipated 'Knives Out 3'—dubbed 'Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.' "The anticipation is killing me! I'm a huge fan of the show, and the writing is nothing short of genius," she gushed to EW at San Diego Comic-Con last month. "I can't wait to be a part of it."

Season 1 of "BEEF," starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, arrived in April 2023 and promptly dominated awards season, garnering praise at the Golden Globes. Creator Lee Sung Jin emphasized the anthology nature of the series, stating, "We always envisioned each season as a fresh 'beef' with new characters." Following its triumphant Emmy sweep, Lee expressed openness to exploring various avenues for a second season, acknowledging, "It wrapped up neatly, but if Netflix is keen, we could continue in an anthology format or take it in many other directions. It all boils down to the Netflix algorithm's magic. We're all ears, waiting for the call."

TVLine has reached out to Netflix for clarification on the casting of Melton and Spaeny, as well as the official renewal status of "BEEF" Season 2. Stay tuned for updates!
