Debby Harry, the frontwoman of the 1974 pop band Blondie, has expressed her heartfelt desire for Florence Pugh to portray her in a biopic. This wish came after the release of her memoir, "Face It: A Memoir," in 2019, which chronicled her ascendancy from the downtown New York City scene of the 1970s to becoming a global superstar, as well as her journey through heroin addiction, bankruptcy, and the breakup of Blondie.
In an interview with the Sunday Times, the "One Way or Another" singer gushed over Pugh, calling her a "great actor" and expressing her delight at the thought of Pugh playing her in a biopic. "If it were somebody like Florence Pugh, I would be in heaven," Harry exclaimed. "I just think she's an incredible actor and she could do anything."
Interestingly, Pugh herself has also expressed a desire to play Harry in a biopic, stating at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in 2020 that "Blondie, just because she's so cool," according to Entertainment Weekly. The role would be a perfect fit for the critically acclaimed actress, who not only excels in her acting career but also has a passion for music. She has appeared in her musician brother Toby Sebastian's 2021 song "Midnight," and has even written and performed songs such as "The Best Part" and "I Hate Myself" for her 2023 movie "A Good Person."
While there is no news yet of a biopic receiving the green light from any filming studio for a silver screen release, Pugh is currently busy filming "Avengers: Doomsday," in which she stars as Yelena Belova. The film is set to be released on December 18, 2026.
