The exhilarating escapades of Cliff Booth, the nonchalant stuntman immortalized by Brad Pitt in his Oscar-winning turn from "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," are poised to resume their thrilling trajectory. Now, the 61-year-old actor has teamed up once again with director David Fincher, his frequent collaborator on films like "Fight Club," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," and "Se7en," for an unanticipated venture penned by none other than Quentin Tarantino, the mastermind behind the aforementioned cinematic masterpiece.
According to The Playlist, this intriguing project will find its home at Netflix, where Fincher, 62, enjoys a first-look deal. Currently in its nascent stages of development, as reported by both The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline, the upcoming film—as yet untitled—is expected to commence production this summer.
It remains unclear whether this endeavor constitutes a traditional sequel to "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," which graced the silver screens in 2019 and was distributed by Sony. While The Hollywood Reporter suggests it's a "derivative" inspired by its predecessor, The Playlist labels it a "sequel." Notably, Tarantino had once toyed with the idea of "The Movie Critic," a screenplay set in the 1970s about a film reviewer for a pornographic magazine, featuring Pitt's character, before shelving it. Furthermore, in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: A Novel," Tarantino expanded upon Clint, Pitt's character, venturing far beyond the confines of the film's narrative.
At present, no other actors have been cast in this enigmatic production. In the original film, Clint served as the stunt double for Leonardo DiCaprio's beleaguered TV star, Rick Dalton, while Margot Robbie portrayed Sharon Tate, whose fate was dramatically altered in Tarantino's alternate history thanks to Clint's heroic deeds.
Pitt's stellar performance in "Hollywood" garnered him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, while the film itself won an Oscar for Best Production Design and received nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. Next, Pitt will don the racing suit in "F1," portraying a Formula One driver from the 1990s. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, this highly anticipated film—a sequel to "Top Gun: Maverick"—is set to release on June 27. Additionally, Pitt serves as an executive producer on Netflix's acclaimed limited series, "Adolescence."
