Coughlan first captivated international audiences with her portrayal in Derry Girls, a nostalgic comedy set against the backdrop of 1990s Northern Ireland amidst the tumultuous final years of The Troubles. The series, which aired for three seasons on Channel 4, achieved global cult status after Netflix acquired its international distribution rights. It garnered top honors at the 2023 BAFTAs for Best Comedy and was also awarded an International Emmy.

Building on this success, Coughlan went on to mesmerize viewers in Netflix's phenomenon Bridgerton, stealing the spotlight as Penelope Featherington, a shy wallflower of the Regency era who secretly doubles as Lady Whistledown, the anonymous author of a notorious gossip sheet. Her tour de force performance earned her a Screen Actors Guild nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series, as well as two additional SAG nominations as part of the Bridgerton ensemble.

Coughlan's versatility knows no bounds, as evidenced by her portrayal of Diplomat Barbie in Greta Gerwig's blockbuster film, her recent starring role alongside Lydia West in the British series Big Mood, and her appearance in the last Doctor Who Christmas special. Upcoming, she will enchant audiences as Silky, the whimsical woodland fairy, in the highly anticipated adaptation of Enid Blyton's The Magic Faraway Tree, alongside Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy.

On April 28th, Coughlan will grace the stage of the Lumiere Theater in Cannes to receive her well-deserved commitment award. The 2025 Canneseries festival, running from April 24th to 29th, promises to be an unforgettable celebration of exceptional television talent.
