With the world's gaze fixed firmly on Britney Spears, her cherished loved ones are stepping forward to offer their support. In the hours following Britney's arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence in California, a representative for the 44-year-old spoke out. "This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable," the statement, shared with E! News on March 5, declared. "Britney is committed to taking the right steps and adhering to the law, and hopefully, this can be the first step in long-overdue change that is needed in Britney's life."

The statement continued, "We hope that she can receive the help and support she needs during this challenging time." Among those standing by her side are Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, the sons she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline. "Her boys will be spending time with her," the statement noted. "Her loved ones are determined to devise a long-needed plan to set her up for success and well-being."

According to police records viewed by E! News, Britney was arrested shortly after 9 p.m. local time on March 4 in Ventura, California, and released the following morning. Both People and TMZ reported, citing law enforcement sources, that the pop star was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Britney's arrest comes just weeks after the "Toxic" singer—who spent nearly 14 years under a conservatorship run by her father Jamie Spears until 2021—shared her insight into how much she had been affected by her strained relationship with her family. In a since-deleted February 4 Instagram post, Britney wrote:

"As people, all we really want is to feel connected to each other and never feel alone," she wrote. "For those of you in your family who have said that helping you means isolating you and making you feel unbelievably left out...they were wrong. We can forgive as people but you don't ever forget. Yearning and longing for contact is always crucial!"

She added, "I'm incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me once in my life and now I'm scared of them."

In the years since her conservatorship ended, Britney has been candid about her strained relationship with her family. In her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, she wrote:

"Freedom means that I get to be as beautifully imperfect as everyone else," she wrote. "And freedom means the ability, and the right, to search for joy in my own way, on my own terms."
