Brody Jenner and Spencer Pratt would eagerly prefer for The Hills' narrative to remain unetched in stone, particularly the saga of its third season. That was the MTV reality show era when Brody found himself entangled in a tentative romance with costar Lauren Conrad, while Spencer and his now-spouse Heidi Montag navigated tumultuous waters in their own relationship. "Which is more excruciating," Spencer pondered aloud to his long-standing buddy on Instagram on June 12, beneath a mirror selfie of Brody donning a pair of FridaBalls underwear. "Rewatching the show or enduring a toddler's swift kick to the nuts?"
In retort, Brody quipped, "The sole torment surpassing a toddler's groin-targeted boot is reliving season three."
These days, the Princes of Malibu alumni are well-versed in the ways of toddlerhood. Spencer, in particular, shares custody of his sons Gunner, 7, and Ryker, 2, with Heidi. Meanwhile, Brody has embarked on fatherhood with his 23-month-old daughter Honey, conceived with fiancée Tia Blanco.
"Since becoming a father, my primary focus in life has revolved around being present for my family and my daughter," Brody confessed to E! News in January. "Consequently, my conversations are largely confined to my immediate family."
This familial devotion has inevitably led to adisconnect with some of his former castmates. "Lauren and I haven't spoken in ages," Brody revealed. "I don't think I've crossed paths with her in a decade."
Similarly, Spencer has severed ties with Lauren. As he recounted, their friendship dissolved when Lauren's screen romance with Brody came to an end. "Brody couldn't fake-date L.C. anymore," he shared during the May 6th episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. "He craved authenticity and the allure of the club scene presented ample opportunities. Once the charade ended, Lauren wanted her wingwoman back."
The 41-year-old recounted how Lauren, now married to Something Corporate guitarist William Tell and mother to two children, "forced Heidi to spend Valentine's Day with her" instead of celebrating with him. "She orchestrated the scene where Heidi packed up and left, believing she had booted Heidi off the show," he alleged. "That was her subtle message: 'Bye, bitch, you're out of my show.'"
However, fans are well-aware that this was not how Heidi exited the series. Both Heidi and Spencer continued their tenure on The Hills until its sixth and ultimate season in 2010. They later reprised their roles in the sequel, The Hills: New Beginnings, which concluded after two seasons in 2022.
