Chance the Rapper Shares "Toughest Part" of Kirsten Corley Divorce

Published: Aug 15 2025

Chance the Rapper understands that family holds a sacred place in one's heart. This profound comprehension is what leads the artist behind "No Problem" to acknowledge that navigating a divorce from his estranged wife, Kirsten Corley—the mother of his daughters Kensli, 9, and Marli, 5—has been most challenging in terms of adapting to a new coparenting landscape.

"The truth is, everyone handles their family dynamics uniquely," Chance elaborated during an August 14 guest appearance on the New Rory & Mal podcast. "My family background is incredibly close-knit. Maintaining that tight-knit bond, not just for us but also for Kirsten and her family, is paramount. So, we continue to journey together, bound by an unbreakable familial thread, albeit in a slightly altered form."

However, the 32-year-old rapper acknowledged that merely finding a way to coexist for their children's sake, after announcing their separation in April 2024 following five years of marriage, doesn't negate the occasional "weirdness" between them.

"I won't pretend it's easy," Chance confessed. "I won't paint a picture of perfection where we shake hands and walk away unscathed. It's awkward. The hardest part, I believe, is acknowledging this new reality. That's where the true challenge lies."

He further elaborated, "You might think you've moved past it, only to realize you haven't. Or perhaps you're accustomed to a certain way of doing things that no longer applies, forcing you to grant yourself the grace to adapt to this new reality."

Chance stressed that both he and Kirsten, also 32, have managed this transition remarkably well. "We strive to remember the significance of supporting and loving each other—not merely for our children's well-being but for our own sanity's sake," he emphasized.

Indeed, the Grammy Award-winning artist, who first met Kirsten when he was just 19 and married her in 2019, revealed that they still see each other "at least every other week" due to their shared parenthood.

"Regardless of what happens, you'll be emotionally intertwined with this person for the rest of your life," he said. "You're both part of the same Venn diagram, connected by the same central point."

Ultimately, Chance expressed gratitude for being on the same page as Kirsten regarding the kind of relationship they wish to foster post-separation.

"I'm not claiming we're emotionally mature paragons," the "Holy" rapper admitted. "But we both possess a perspective that prevents us from straying too far in any direction. And I'm thankful to have someone who shares this understanding with me."
