Charlie Puth Defends Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo After Oscars Snub

Charlie Puth is a deeply sentimental individual when it comes to "Wicked: For Good." After the 2026 Oscar nominations were announced on January 22, both Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were overlooked, which prompted the "See You Again" singer to come to their defense.

"The fact that Ariana and Cynthia didn't receive nominations for 'Wicked' is truly disappointing," Charlie wrote on X. "While I don't watch a lot of movies, I believe the incredible musicality they both displayed should be acknowledged and celebrated."

In addition to the lack of nominations for Ariana and Cynthia, 'Wicked: For Good' was also completely shut out of the Oscar race, failing to secure nominations for Best Picture or for its two original songs, "No Place Like Home" and "The Girl in the Bubble."

Despite not receiving any Oscar nods, Cynthia was recognized for her portrayal of Elphaba at the 2026 Golden Globes, while Ariana's performance as Glinda was nominated for a Golden Globe and Best Supporting Actress at the upcoming Actor Awards, which will be held on March 1.

Last year, both Ariana and Cynthia received Oscar nominations, with Cynthia nabbing a Best Actress nod and Ariana a Best Supporting Actress one. The first part of 'Wicked' earned a total of 10 nominations, including Best Picture, and won for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.

Ariana and Cynthia have expressed their gratitude for the accolades they've received so far but have also felt an "overwhelming sense of gratitude" as they come to the end of 'Wicked.'

"It's been an incredible journey and experience to create with people we love and respect so much creatively," Ariana shared with E! News in November. "They have great hearts, and it's been thrilling to finally bring the full story of Elphaba and Glinda, and the full arc of these women we love so much, to life after almost five years of being with them."
