On Tuesday, Chilean authorities made a significant announcement, revealing that they had transferred a collection of watches worth $125,000, which were originally stolen from the Canadian actor Keanu Reeves, to the FBI. According to The Associated Press, these six timepieces, inclusive of a Rolex valued at no less than $9,500, will soon be returned to Reeves, famously adored for his roles in "John Wick" and "The Matrix."
The watches, reclaimed during police raids conducted months prior, had been wrested from Reeves' residence in the esteemed Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles back in December 2023, amidst a spree of high-profile burglaries. Chilean prosecutors, as quoted by the AP, confirmed that Reeves himself had identified the retrieved watches as the very ones stolen from him.
During the raids on homes in Santiago, Chile's bustling capital, law enforcement officials uncovered an array of stolen items, spanning from iPhones and luxury cars to designer purses and, notably, the watches belonging to Reeves. These raids also happened to coincide with a separate investigation into a series of robberies orchestrated by South American crime syndicates, who had set their sights on American luxury homes, including the abode of professional football player Travis Kelce, as reported by the AP.
In April, Chilean police announced the arrest of 23 citizens who were implicated in this string of burglaries, according to the AP. Whether there exists a connection between the theft of Reeves' watches and these other burglaries is still an ongoing matter of investigation, cited a Chilean police officer in the AP report.
This announcement comes at a time when Kristi Noem, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, is visiting the South American nation for crucial meetings with officials, addressing issues such as transnational crime. Incidentally, in April, Noem herself was a victim of a similar incident when her purse was snatched at a Washington restaurant by an illegally present Chilean national, as detailed by the AP.
A representative for Keanu Reeves did not promptly respond to Fox News Digital's request for commentary.
