According to multiple reports, Chris Brown has been apprehended in connection with a 2023 altercation in England, where the notorious singer is accused of viciously striking a man over the head with a tequila bottle. Prior to this, Brown had already faced a lawsuit stemming from the alleged incident, as detailed by Page Six. Music producer Amadou Diaw filed a complaint in October 2023, asserting that Brown had inflicted "severe and lasting injuries" upon him in February of that year, resulting in Diaw's hospitalization due to "head lacerations and torn leg ligaments."
In a statement released regarding the arrest, the Metropolitan Police noted that they could neither confirm nor deny if Brown was the individual in custody, stating: "A 36-year-old man was arrested at a Manchester hotel shortly after 02:00 on Thursday, May 15th, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into police custody and remains there. This arrest pertains to an incident that occurred at a venue in Hanover Square on February 19th, 2023."
Representatives for Brown declined to comment on The Hollywood Reporter's request for a statement.
Brown's arrest casts a shadow over his impending Breezy Bowl XX Tour, which is set to kick off in the Netherlands on June 8th. He is also scheduled to perform several concerts in the UK in June and July, followed by a string of US dates from late July through October.
Despite his controversial past, which dates back to his brutal assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 and several subsequent incidents, Brown remains one of the most polarizing figures in the music industry. Nonetheless, his popularity remains unwavering, with tickets for the upcoming US leg of his tour nearly sold out. During Live Nation's recent earnings call, CEO Michael Rapino highlighted Brown's tour as a particularly robust seller.
