Chris Hemsworth, renowned worldwide for his portrayal of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has left his fans pondering whether he has made the decision to hang up his hammer. The 41-year-old actor hasn't donned the god of thunder's armor since the 2022 release of Thor: Love and Thunder. In May, the MCU icon sparked concerns among fans with a viral post, expressing gratitude for their longstanding support of the character. However, the post hinted at his potential return in Avengers: Doomsday, while simultaneously sparking speculation that this could mark the end of his journey as the superhero.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hemsworth finally addressed the matter, clarifying that he had "no intention" of fostering any misconceptions. He elaborated, "To be frank, my social media team compiled some footage and suggested, 'Hey, this could be pretty cool. Let's post it and thank the fans.' I agreed, thinking, 'Yeah, that sounds great. It's been wonderful.'"

"We crafted the post together, and I moved on to other endeavors. But then, I started receiving inquiries about it, and someone on my team mentioned, 'Oops, we might have given the wrong impression here.'" The Extraction star revealed that neither he nor his team saw the need for damage control at the time.

However, with a new chapter of Thor's saga looming in the upcoming Avengers film, Hemsworth deemed it fitting to address the elephant in the room. Avengers: Doomsday is set to release on December 18, 2026.
