Chris Martin is embracing his newly acquired singlehood with grace and ease. The lead singer of Coldplay made his debut public appearance post his breakup with Dakota Johnson, strolling leisurely through the bustling streets of New York City on June 16. On this casual expedition, the 48-year-old opted for a sophisticated yet laid-back ensemble, donning a black T-shirt and trousers paired with a dark blazer and aviator sunglasses. By his side was his 19-year-old son, Moses Martin, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow. (The ex-couple are also proud parents to their 21-year-old daughter, Apple Martin.)
The news of Chris and Dakota's, 35, split first emerged earlier this month, though neither party has publicly addressed the breakup. The couple, who first sparked romance rumors in 2017, were last seen together in May, exiting a yoga studio side by side. Notably, the singer of "Something Just Like This" remained steadfastly supportive of his partner until the very end, even encouraging fans to catch her latest romantic comedy, which also stars Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. "Thank you so much, everybody," he said to the audience during the closing moments of Coldplay's June 1 concert in Stanford, California. "Be kind to yourself, be kind to each other. Don't forget to watch 'Material Girl'!"
As Chris navigates this new chapter in his life with his son by his side, Dakota appears to have found solace in a furry friend: her newly adopted puppy, Tokyo. "We rescued her on Saturday from the Santa Barbara shelter," Dakota revealed on the June 10 episode of Amy Poehler's 'Good Hang' podcast, with her new pup in tow. "It wasn't really in my plans."
Tokyo, the newest member of Dakota's household, certainly stole the spotlight during her public debut, sniffing curiously around the audio-video equipment in the recording studio. "She's a performer," the actress joked as Tokyo inspected her high-tech surroundings. "Honestly, she's come alive in front of the camera. She's usually quite timid and hides at the back of her crate. But now, she's like, 'Here I am!'"
