Chris Pratt is poised to reprise his role as Garfield, the Monday-dreading, lasagna-adoring feline, in an animated follow-up to last year's critically acclaimed 'The Garfield Movie.' This 2024 animated spectacle, distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures (with the notable exception of China), amassed an impressive $230 million at the global box office.
At the helm of this sequel are Alcon's co-CEOs, Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, who will collaborate with John Cohen, Steven P. Wegner, and Pratt himself as producers. Joining forces with Alcon Entertainment is Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios as co-producer. DNEG Animation, the animation studio behind the original film's visual magic, returns once again as the animation partner.
Prior to the first film's release, Alcon secured the rights from Garfield's creator, Jim Davis, who will lend his expertise as an executive producer for the sequel. Bridget McMeel from Amuse will also serve in an executive producer capacity.
The producers are currently on the lookout for a talented writer and director to bring this project to life.
In addition to this venture, Pratt's upcoming slate includes the Amazon MGM feature 'Mercy' and 'Way Of The Warrior Kid' from Apple and Skydance. He is represented by UTA, Rise, and Sloan Offer.
This animated sequel promises to delve deeper into Garfield's whimsical world, capturing the essence of his love-hate relationship with Mondays and his unwavering passion for lasagna.
