Christina Ricci Talks ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3: “It’s Going to Be Even More Shocking… and Brutal”

Christina Ricci sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to reflect on the shocking climax of Yellowjackets' second season, offering insights into Misty's journey and her role in the Netflix sensation 'Wednesday.' She candidly shared her thoughts on that pivotal scene, where her character accidentally killed Juliette Lewis' Natalie in a survival struggle post-plane crash.

Ricci revealed that a few episodes for the upcoming season, set to premiere in early 2025, have already been filmed in Canada. "This season will be even more jarring and unexpected than its predecessors," she enthused. "It's going to be brutal, yet interspersed with plenty of humor. It's going to be quintessentially 'Yellowjackets.'"

Expressing her sorrow over Juliette Lewis' departure, Ricci described the cast as a "sisterhood." She said, "We bonded deeply and spent countless hours together, cherishing each other's company. It was heartbreaking to see her character meet such a fate. Even now, filming a few episodes without her feels incomplete."

Ricci confessed that the fateful moment came as a surprise to her, but she believes Misty would forgive herself. "Yes, she has a history of such acts," she said. "She's forgiven herself for her past transgressions in the wild, and I think she's resilient enough to move on. She's a survivor." She added, "If life's hardships were meant to destroy her, they would have done so already. These women have endured so much."

Ricci was tight-lipped about future revelations for Misty and the Yellowjackets, noting that the creators keep the cast in the dark. "We don't always get the full picture," she admitted. "We tend to find out later than one might expect. But that's the nature of TV, especially for this show. They reveal little about the storylines, and I don't even inquire, as it puts them in an awkward position."

She confessed that this level of uncertainty is new to her, having come from a film background where the entire story is known. "It's quite different," she said. "With film, you work on the entire narrative, piecing things together to make sense. It can be disconcerting to suddenly find out details about a character's past that you've never portrayed. But every project brings its own challenges, and this is how 'Yellowjackets' is crafted."

Ricci also revealed her involvement in 'Wednesday,' where she plays a pivotal role behind the scenes. However, she emphasized that Jenna Ortega's portrayal is distinct from her own 32-year-old interpretation. "Jenna is phenomenal, and her interpretation is unique," she praised. "I'm now 44, so I don't feel a sense of ownership over the character as some might imagine. Many actors have played Wednesday over the years, just like Juliet in Shakespeare. It's a role that evolves with each interpreter."

In her latest endeavor, Ricci stars alongside Chris Hemsworth, Ken Jeong, and Auli'i Cravalho in a five-minute film celebrating the launch of 'Squad Busters.' While her family's gamers are her husband and son, it was the opportunity to collaborate with Will Arnett that truly drew her in. "I've been a huge fan of Will Arnett for years," she confessed. "Working with him was a dream. He's a genius, and the entire cast was brilliantly hilarious."
