Hulu is enhancing its slate of original series with the addition of the intriguing drama, "Phony." This half-hour mystery, under the Disney-owned streaming giant's wing, boasts a star-studded cast led by Connie Britton and Sam Nivola. Helmed by creator Nick Paley, whose credits include "Marcel the Shell With Shoes On" and "Broad City," he will co-steer the show alongside Anthony King, known for his work on "The Afterparty" and "Silicon Valley."

Ordered as a pilot by Hulu in October 2024, "Phony" revolves around Sonny (Nivola), a cherished high school student who awakens in a hospital bed following a car accident to find his mother, Ellen (Britton), seemingly swapped out by an imposter. Described by Hulu as a "coming-of-age mystery," the show dives into a world where reality and deceit intertwine.

Sonny, played by the rising star Nivola, is adored by his peers but only truly understood by Ellen, a single mother who also happens to be the school's principal. "Phony" marks a continued ascent for Nivola in American television, following notable roles in Netflix's "The Perfect Couple" and HBO's "The White Lotus" season three. Britton, another "White Lotus" alum from its inaugural season, has recently starred in "Zero Day" and "The Life List" on Netflix and Apple TV+'s "Dear Edward."

Produced by Disney's 20th Television, "Phony" is executive produced by Paley, King, Britton, Charlie Alderman via Charlie’s Production Company, and Drew Goddard alongside Sarah Esberg of Goddard Textiles. Andrea Massaro of the latter serves as co-executive producer.

Britton is represented by CAA, Untitled Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobson; Nivola by UTA and Narrative; Paley by UTA, Entertainment 360, and Frankfurt Kurnit; and King by WME, Mosaic, and Ziffren Brittenham.

This compelling narrative promises to captivate audiences with its blend of mystery, teen angst, and family drama, making "Phony" a must-watch addition to Hulu's roster.
