Corey Mylchreest, renowned for his portrayal of King George III in "Queen Charlotte," recently unveiled a little-known anecdote about his unsuccessful bid for a beloved Disney character. During an engaging conversation with his "My Oxford Year" co-star Sofia Carson for Seventeen Magazine, the star of "The Elevator Pitch" confessed that he had auditioned to play Flynn Rider in Disney's live-action adaptation of "Tangled."
Mylchreest, who admitted to Carson that he possesses singing talents, expressed his frustration at not securing the role despite his efforts. He emphasized the film's demand for powerful vocals, which ultimately led to his audition's demise. With a touch of humor, he recounted, "I think I can safely disclose this now since it's not happening anymore, but yes, I auditioned for 'Tangled.'" Carson, intrigued, requested to view the audition tape, but Mylchreest swiftly dismissed the idea with a playful exaggeration. "The footage is long gone. I deleted it, burnt it, destroyed the phone it was recorded on, even torched the room where I did it. And let's just say, in a symbolic gesture, I 'burnt' myself over it too," he joked, adding, "No, it wasn't very good. They informed me they were looking for someone with singing experience."
Fans of Mylchreest took to X (formerly known as Twitter), voicing their reactions to the revelation that he almost played the cherished character. One user declared, "I'd much rather have someone who looks like Flynn Rider, even if they can't sing, than some random guy who doesn't resemble him but can." Another fan expressed their astonishment, tweeting, "Shut the front door! Corey Mylchreest auditioned for Flynn Rider??? Omgg." Another added, "Not Corey casually mentioning his Flynn Rider audition on a Wednesday evening, munching on popcorn, and finally admitting he can sing after denying it countless times!"
Following the disappointing box office performance of "Snow White," Disney announced a halt to its live-action adaptation of the beloved 2010 animated film, which was previously under the direction of Michael Gracey.
