Courtney Love, the 60-year-old rocker and widow of Nirvana's iconic frontman Kurt Cobain, has unveiled her intention to permanently settle in the United Kingdom, citing Donald Trump's return to the Oval Office as a pivotal factor. A vocal critic of Trump, Love reportedly made the move from Los Angeles to England in 2019.
At a recent gathering hosted by the Royal Geographical Society in London, Love expressed her profound satisfaction with her new home, as recounted by the Daily Mail. "I'm truly delighted to be here," she enthused. "Living in this country is marvelous. In just six months, I'll finally become a British citizen. I'm actively applying—I'm here to stay, folks! You can't shake me off!"
Addressing Trump and his administration, she added, "It's like an emperor's core, where they flaunt million-dollar watches as a matter of routine. The emperor's core is thriving at Mar-a-Lago. It's terrifying now—like ingesting cyanide."
Love has long harbored a fondness for London. In a 2017 interview with the Evening Standard, she revealed, "I know I'll eventually call this place my home. I even know which neighborhood and how I envision living by the Thames. I subscribe to Country Life magazine, which is essentially real-estate porn intertwined with fox hunting. It's fascinating."
Love initially gained fame as the lead singer and guitarist of her alternative rock band Hole, which she established in 1989. She fronted the group until its dissolution in 2002 and once again when they reunited from 2010 to 2013.
In 1992, she tied the knot with Nirvana's frontman, Cobain. That same year, they welcomed their only child, Frances Bean Cobain, who is now 32. The couple remained together until Cobain's tragic suicide in 1994 at the age of 27.
Love joins an expanding roster of celebrities, including Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, who have chosen to flee America to escape the aftermath of the 2024 election results. Earlier this month, Rosie O'Donnell confirmed her departure from the U.S. for Ireland, stating she wouldn't contemplate returning until "it becomes safe for all citizens to enjoy equal rights."
In a TikTok video, the A League of Their Own actress shared, "I deeply miss many aspects of life in the U.S., and I'm striving to find a home here in this breathtaking country. It's been heart-wrenching to witness the political turmoil and has personally taken a toll on me."
