Danai Gurira is set to reunite with her fellow "Black Panther" co-star, Michael B. Jordan, for a daring new take on "The Thomas Crown Affair," led by Jordan himself. This romantic heist thriller marks Jordan's triple threat role as not only the lead actor but also the director and producer under his Outlier Society banner. Elizabeth Raposo from Outlier Society, alongside seasoned producer Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment, are joining forces to bring this project to life. Production kicks off in London this Monday, with the esteemed Academy Award winner Kenneth Branagh and nominee Lily Gladstone freshly added to the star-studded cast, along with Taylor Russell.

The 1968 original, produced by United Artists, featured Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway in a tale of a thrill-seeking bank robber who meets his match, perhaps unwittingly, in the insurance investigator trailing him. The 1999 remake starred Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Sources whisper that this latest iteration shifts the action to the picturesque landscapes of Europe, while preserving the allure of art theft as its central theme. Jordan will portray the billionaire with an insatiable love for art and a penchant for sticky fingers, while Russell takes on the role of a suave private detective. Details about Gladstone and Branagh's characters remain shrouded in mystery. Gurira, meanwhile, will portray Jordan's trusted confidante, adding depth to their on-screen reunion.

Amazon MGM has set a theatrical release date of March 5, 2027, for this thrilling romantic adventure. Drew Pearce penned the script, following an earlier draft by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson, which was inspired by the original film. Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff of Toberoff Productions are also listed as producers, with Alan Trustman, the screenwriter of the 1968 classic, serving as an executive producer.

Gurira is renowned for her portrayal of Okoye, the Wakandan general and master warrior, in Marvel's "Black Panther" and "Avengers" films, a role that garnered her a People’s Choice Award, an NAACP Image Award, and a shared SAG Award. She faced off against Jordan in the first "Black Panther," where he played a rival to the Wakandan throne. On television, she garnered a cult following as Michonne, the katana-wielding zombie slayer in AMC's "The Walking Dead," and recently co-created, executive produced, and starred in its spinoff, "The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live." Next, she will be seen in Apple TV+'s upcoming film "Matchbox," based on Mattel's iconic toy vehicle line, opposite John Cena.
