Dermot Mulroney Files for Divorce from Wife Prima Apollinaare After 15 Years

Published: Jun 24 2025

Dermot Mulroney has initiated divorce proceedings from his wife, Prima Apollinaare. According to court documents accessed by PEOPLE, the 61-year-old actor formally filed a petition to dissolve their 15-year marriage on Saturday, June 21st. Representing himself in the matter, Mulroney cited irreconcilable differences and indicated their date of separation as yet to be determined ("TBD").

The "Chicago Fire" star also requested that legal fees be divided equally between the parties and sought joint physical and legal custody of their two daughters, Mabel Ray, 17, and Sally June, 15. Furthermore, while Mulroney requested the termination of the court's authority to award Apollinaare alimony, he sought spousal support for himself.

However, a source close to the situation informed PEOPLE, "Neither party is demanding anything nor refusing anything. They are not at odds over their children or finances." The insider added, "They opted for mediators instead of lawyers because they remain friends and the divorce is amicable. This route was recommended to them."

Although the couple has yet to finalize the "nature and extent" of their assets, Mulroney asserted that "all earnings and accumulations incurred during the marriage, up until the date of separation," would be considered community property.

Mulroney and Apollinaare's romance blossomed in 2008, and they welcomed their first daughter that very year. Soon afterward, they expanded their family with a second daughter before tying the knot in December 2010. Their bond was first forged over a shared passion for music—Mulroney, besides being an actor, is a professional cellist with credits in films like "Planet of the Apes" and the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, while Apollinaare, originally from Italy, is a singer-songwriter.

Apollinaare, who changed her name from Tharita Cutulle in 2015 for undisclosed reasons, grew up in a musical family. Though she has shared little about her childhood, she has expressed that music has been her lifelong passion. "I've been immersed in music since birth," she revealed to the music label Lost In The Manor in 2023. "My mother is a singer, and my father played the trumpet and piano."

She has even collaborated with her soon-to-be ex-husband on some of his film projects. In 2010, she was listed as one of Mulroney's producing partners for a biopic he was set to direct, according to the Associated Press (via The Hollywood Reporter). Later that year, Mulroney disclosed to the New York Post that Apollinaare was not a fan of his horror movies, such as "Scream IV." "I doubt she'll even watch it because I know her tolerance level," he said. "She can't even stomach half of the posters."
