"With a profound sense of sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Douglas Kiker," penned Evans. "He was deeply loved and will be missed by countless hearts! Now, you sing with the angels, Bubba. Please keep our family in your prayers as we navigate through this excruciatingly challenging period."

"Today, I received a call that no one could ever wish to hear," shared Carrillos-Ramirez. "We have lost an extraordinary soul today. Douglas had the warmest smile and an unparalleled knack for making everyone burst into laughter. Though I wasn't his biological raiser, my love for him never waned. Our parents did an impeccable job nurturing him. Douglas Kiker, you will forever remain etched in our hearts. Soar high and greet grandma for us."

Kiker's unforgettable moment in the limelight came during his 2020 audition for "American Idol" season 18, where he mesmerized judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan with his cover of Rascal Flatts' "Bless the Broken Road," with Bryan accompanying him on the piano. Katy Perry, deeply moved, couldn't hold back her tears.

"I want all of us to acknowledge that you are an incredible man," Richie told Kiker with admiration. Among his peers in Alabama, Kiker was affectionately known as "The Singing Garbage Man," a nickname that resonated with the show's audience too. Although his journey on the show was cut short soon after, he returned for a virtual performance during the season 18 finale amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

A year after his memorable "American Idol" stint, Kiker faced legal troubles when he was arrested in May 2021 on domestic violence charges.

In a bid to ease the financial burden of his funeral expenses, Carrillos-Ramirez has initiated a GoFundMe campaign. "Thank you for your heartfelt love, unwavering support, and generous contributions during this incredibly tough time. We are deeply grateful to each and every one of you."
