When Ed Sheeran's little girls, Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3, entered his world, he made a clean break from all his vices. The "Perfect" singer recently shared that his remarkable 30-pound weight loss and total health transformation was sparked by his and wife Cherry Seaborn's joyous welcome of their daughters. "I became a dad," Ed succinctly told Men's Health UK when asked about his health journey. "I remember Lyra was just two weeks old and I had my best mate over for a bottle of wine. I went to bed, and then Lyra woke up 20 minutes after I'd fallen asleep."
He recalled, "I thought, 'Damn, I probably shouldn't drink if I want to feel better and be able to enjoy the night stuff.'" Moreover, he was seeking a comprehensive overhaul in his life. As he put it, "It all happened at the same time as I wanted to be a responsible dad and feel and look good."

The 34-year-old emphasized that he also wanted to ensure longevity for his young daughters, adding, "I didn't want to pick up my kid and have my back in shreds." And while the Grammy winner's weight and overall health had fluctuated over the years, he embarked on a total lifestyle change by incorporating running, weightlifting, and reformer Pilates into his routine.
For Ed, the benefits have been profound. "I do think that wellness is a direct mirror of mental health and how you feel," he explained. "I always felt like shit within myself; I'd wake up and look in the mirror and just feel gross."
Of course, Ed hasn't completely left his old self behind. "I'm not saying I'm done with enjoying myself," he added. "I still drink. I love red wine, I love a nice meal, but it's not every day."
This isn't the first time Ed has opened up about his health journey. In 2023, he shared that he struggled with binge eating amid dealing with the body standards set by his fellow male pop stars. "There are certain things that, as a man talking about them, I feel incredibly uncomfortable," he noted while appearing on SiriusXM's The Morning Mash Up at the time. "I know people are going to see it a certain way, but it's good to be honest about them. Because so many people do the same thing and hide it as well."
At that time, Ed also emphasized that he was learning to find a "balance" when it came to his health. "If you're eating food that you really want to eat, but also exercising and looking the way that you kind of want to look," he explained. "I feel like that's a good balance."
