Ed Sheeran, the hitmaker behind "Shape of You," has finally broken his silence on the swirling rumors about him relocating to the USA with his family. For those not in the loop, the 34-year-old English crooner made an appearance on the 2 Johnnies podcast earlier this year, where he casually mentioned the possibility of moving to America for a spell with his loved ones. Alas, his words were misconstrued, sparking a flurry of speculation that he was bidding farewell to the UK for good.
In a recent Instagram post, the "Perfect" singer set the record straight, clarifying that his family would only be relocating to the US temporarily while he embarks on a tour. "It's way easier to clear up stuff on here, so here's me setting the record straight because there's definitely a narrative the press are trying to push that people wanna move out of the UK for some reason," Sheeran remarked.
He went on to elaborate, "I'm not moving permanently; I'm going on tour with my family and relocating to the continent I'm touring on. Obviously, I don't wanna commute from London to San Diego." Sheeran further dispelled any notions that his decision was tax-driven, reassuring fans that he would continue to pay taxes in the UK, where he resides. "Also, this isn't a tax thing; it's the USA, not the UAE. I'll always pay tax in the UK because that's where I live," he explained. "Play out this Friday, go listen to it," he added with a wink.
On the work front, Sheeran's highly anticipated new studio album, "Play," is set to drop this Friday, September 12.
