Ed Sheeran has made a triumphant return to the music scene. After nearly two years of anticipation since the release of his seventh album, "Autumn Variations," the artist posted an exciting update on his Instagram, revealing, "Album done. Single soon," while grooving to the upcoming tune beside his producer, Ilya Salmanzadeh. Although Sheeran kept mum about the specific release dates for both the single and the album, his enthusiasm was palpable as he exclaimed, "I’m very excited as you can tell."
The upcoming single, "Azizam," promises a lively dance beat infused with Persian influences, as evident from its title. "Azizam" itself is a Persian term of endearment, meaning "my dear," adding a unique cultural twist to Sheeran's repertoire.
Since 2023, fans have eagerly awaited a new album from Sheeran. Prior to "Autumn Variations," which charted at No. 4 on Billboard’s 200 Albums chart, he released "– (Subtract)," the final installment in his mathematically themed series of albums, following "+," "X," "÷," and "=". Last year, he contributed the track "Under the Tree" to the Netflix Christmas film "That Christmas," further whetting fans' appetites for new music.
"Azizam" arrives amidst Ed Sheeran's ongoing Mathematics Tour, which has been spanning years and continents. In 2025 alone, he has already performed in Bhutan, India, and China. After a brief hiatus since March 2, he will resume his tour with shows starting in Qatar on April 30. The Mathematics Tour will culminate later this year, with a final European leg that will bring Sheeran to Düsseldorf for a grand finale on September 7.
Announcing the final Mathematics shows last summer, Sheeran posted on Instagram, "It was time to Stop," hinting at the tour's conclusion. But he quickly added, "But then we can press Play," leaving fans hopeful for more music and unforgettable performances in the future.
