Ed Sheeran trades England for America in big move with wife and children

Ed Sheeran is on the brink of a major life shift. During a recent guest appearance on The 2 Johnnies Podcast, the British singer-songwriter—whose 17th album, "Play," is slated for release later this week—opened up about his ambitious plans to relocate his family from England to the United States with the hope of truly "settling down."

"I'm just about to make the move to America. I feel like I might be the only one heading that way these days," Sheeran remarked with a hint of humor. Having grown up in the quaint English town of Framlingham and currently residing in Suffolk, he shared, "I'm going on tour there for an extended period, and with a family in tow, I can't just pop in and out. We're going all in and settling there."

Earlier this year, Sheeran also shed light on his long-term aspirations to delve into country music. "Once you make the leap to country, there's no going back," Sheeran, who shares two young daughters with his wife, Cherry Seaborn, confided to Alex Cooper during an appearance on "Call Her Daddy." "Nashville holds a special place in my heart. It's always been my ultimate goal to relocate there and fully embrace the country music scene."

In 2013, Sheeran had already voiced his admiration for Nashville. "Nashville is brimming with incredibly kind people," he told Newsbeat at the Brit Awards, as reported by the BBC. "I don't think celebrities really get a second glance there. Even if they recognized you, I doubt they'd make a big fuss. They'd just shrug and say, 'Eh.'"

In stark contrast to Sheeran, numerous celebrities—including Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O'Donnell—have opted to leave the States in search of a fresh start abroad. Ellen DeGeneres' decision to settle in the English countryside was partly influenced by President Donald Trump's return to the White House. DeGeneres has openly acknowledged that Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election played a pivotal role in her choice to relocate overseas.

Initially, the move was intended to be a temporary retreat. However, after the election results came in, the situation took a more permanent turn. "We arrived the day before the election and woke up to a barrage of texts from friends, all accompanied by crying emojis. I knew right away, 'He won,'" DeGeneres recounted during her first U.K. appearance since the relocation, as per the BBC. "And we just thought, 'We're staying here.'"

Rosie O'Donnell, meanwhile, fled to Ireland following Trump's 2024 election win, having been at odds with the president ever since making controversial remarks about him during her tenure as a co-host on "The View" in 2006.
