"Do you have any inkling who might seek our demise?" Amazon Prime Video UK has unveiled the captivating first trailer for "The Assassin," an enchanting streaming series that chronicles the journey of a female assassin striving for a serene life in Greece. While US viewers await its arrival, British (and Irish) audiences can catch it on Prime Video towards the end of this month. Penned by the talented duo Harry & Jack Williams, this six-episode saga revolves around Julie, a retired assassin, who, while residing in seclusion on a secluded Greek island, faces an emotional reunion with her estranged son, Edward.
"Armed with probing questions stemming from fresh revelations about his parentage, Edward grapples with finding the opportune moment to confront his distant mother. However, when that moment finally arrives, it triggers a lethal chain of events as Julie's treacherous past catches up with her, compelling them to flee the island and embark on a perilous escape together." Such twists are inevitable.
Starring Keeley Hawes as Julie and Freddie Highmore as Edward, accompanied by an ensemble cast featuring Gina Gershon, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jack Davenport, Alan Dale, Gerald Kyd, and Devon Terrell, this series promises an exhilarating watch. In this thrilling tale, Julie, a retired assassin living peacefully in Greece, is reacquainted with her estranged son, Edward (co-starred by Freddie Highmore), who seeks answers about his father and his mother's shadowy past. Yet, both find themselves entangled in peril as Julie's dark history catches up with her.
"The Assassin" is a creation penned and scripted by the English screenwriter/producer siblings Harry and Jack Williams, who are also renowned for their work on "Hotel Babylon," "Wild at Heart," "Call the Midwife," "The Missing," and "Baptiste," with additional writing contributions by Krissie Ducker. Directed by Lisa Mulcahy and Daniel Nettheim, the series is produced by Two Brothers Productions, in collaboration with the German company ZDF, All3Media International, and Stan in Australia.
