According to TMZ, renowned sportscaster Bryant Gumbel, a former co-host of the "Today" show and the beloved host of HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel," has reportedly been hospitalized in New York City following a "medical emergency" that occurred on Monday evening, October 20th.
The 77-year-old Gumbel was rushed from his Manhattan apartment building to a local hospital at around 9 p.m., sources have revealed to TMZ. As of Tuesday afternoon, he is still receiving treatment, albeit in a more stable condition, according to a family member who spoke with the outlet. Despite the reassurance from the family member that Bryant is "okay," no further details about his condition or the nature of the medical emergency have been shared at this time.

Gumbel's journey in the world of sports broadcasting began in 1982 as a co-host of the "Today Show," alongside Jane Pauley and Katie Couric. He later joined CBS as a broadcaster in 1997 and became the host of "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" in 1995, a role he held until the long-running series concluded on HBO in December 2023.
The sportscaster recently experienced a personal loss when he lost his older brother, renowned NFL broadcaster and March Madness host Greg Gumbel, in December 2024. In a statement shared with PEOPLE at the time of Greg's passing, his family paid tribute to their beloved husband and father, saying, "It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband and father, Greg Gumbel. He passed away peacefully surrounded by much love after a courageous battle with cancer."
The statement, written by Greg's widow Marcy and daughter Michelle, continued, "Greg approached his illness like one would expect he would, with stoicism, grace, and positivity." It further stated that he leaves behind a legacy of love, inspiration, and dedication to over 50 extraordinary years in the sports broadcast industry; and his iconic voice will never be forgotten.
