After months immersed in a swirl of rumors, speculations, and widespread confusion, Bandai Namco and A24 have officially sealed the deal on a live-action adaptation of Elden Ring, unveiling their collaborative endeavor in a groundbreaking press release. It transpires that the intricate details of this cinematic venture closely echo the preliminary scoop shared by Nexus Point News earlier this month, prior to its unfortunate retraction.
At the helm of this ambitious project stands Alex Garland, the visionary director behind the 2024 dystopian thriller Civil War and co-director of the 2025 war epic Warfare. Garland has embarked on the dual role of screenwriter and director for Elden Ring under the A24 banner. Joining forces with him is none other than George R.R. Martin, the mastermind behind A Song of Ice and Fire and a key contributor to Elden Ring's immersive world-building and lore, who has signed on as a producer.
As of now, the movie lacks a concrete release date or timeframe, leaving fans eagerly anticipating its arrival.
Elden Ring, a critically acclaimed and phenomenonally popular RPG, first graced the gaming world in 2022 across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC platforms. It challenges players to traverse a perilous and expansive open-world landscape in their quest to ascend to the throne as the new Elden Lord.
Whispers of a cinematic adaptation have lingered in the air for years, with Bandai Namco CEO Yasuo Miyakawa hinting in 2021 about plans to expand the Elden Ring universe "beyond the game, into diverse territories." In 2024, Martin subtly downplayed these rumors, only to stoke the flames of speculation further.
Meanwhile, A24 is also co-producing an adaptation of the action-adventure game Death Stranding, in tandem with Kojima Productions, solidifying its commitment to bridging the gap between gaming and cinema.
