"Good Day" Production Team Releases Apology + To Edit Out Kim Soo Hyun's Footage

Published: Mar 17 2025

MBC's variety show, "Good Day," has made the decision to excise all footage featuring Kim Soo Hyun from its programming amidst the swirling controversy that has enveloped him. On March 17th, the production team of "Good Day" issued the following official statement:

Greetings, this is the production team of "Good Day."

First and foremost, we offer our heartfelt apologies for the concern our actions have caused our dedicated viewers. The production team is keenly aware of the gravity of the controversy enveloping one of our cast members and is steadfastly committed to prioritizing the sentiments of our audience as we press on with production.

"Good Day," being a show that is pre-produced one to two weeks ahead of its broadcast due to the intricate translation process required for international dissemination, faced an unprecedented challenge. Episode 5, which aired yesterday, underwent emergency editing to omit Kim Soo Hyun's segments from the "Good Day General Assembly." This swift decision, taken in unison with MBC and global OTT platforms, came despite the episode already being submitted and in the midst of translation. Consequently, episode 5 was roughly 10 minutes shorter than usual, resulting in some details being omitted.

Regarding the recording session held on March 13th, the production team was in limbo, awaiting an official statement from Kim Soo Hyun's agency amidst delays in the scheduled soundtrack recording for "Good Day." Regrettably, the agency informed us that their statement would be forthcoming the subsequent week (from March 13th onward), making it difficult to secure the cast member's schedule thereafter. After much deliberation, we were compelled to proceed with the recording. With meticulous consideration, the production team conducted the recording and sketch filming, ensuring minimal interaction with other cast members and keeping in mind the possibility of eventual footage excision. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern this has caused our avid "Good Day" fans.

We firmly believe that the ongoing controversy surrounding our cast member has the potential to further undermine the noble intentions of "Good Day," the sincerity of our fully committed cast, and the love and support of our viewers. The "Good Day General Assembly" content, which debuted towards the end of episode 5 yesterday, was filmed on February 18th and is scheduled to unfold over the next six to seven episodes. The production team has made the decision to minimize Kim Soo Hyun's appearances as much as feasible. Additionally, the individual recording session featuring the cast member on March 13th will not see the light of day.

We are committed to ensuring that the remaining episodes bring joy to our viewers. We will also attend closely to the emotions of our cast members who are an integral part of this journey and strive to make "Good Day" a show that can be savored with wonderful people on delightful days.
