The eagerly anticipated third and final chapter of "Good Omens" on Prime Video is poised to redefine the conventional television "season" in both expansive and condensed terms. On Thursday, the Amazon-backed streaming giant unveiled that the show, starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant, and adapted from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's beloved novel, will conclude with an epic, feature-length episode. Scheduled to commence production in Scotland early next year, this 90-minute grand finale promises a spectacle unlike any other.
Prime Video further disclosed that Gaiman, despite his contributions to the script, will not be directly involved in the production of this climactic instalment. Earlier in the year, Gaiman faced allegations of sexual assault from five women, detailed in a podcast titled "Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman." He has steadfastly denied any misconduct but graciously offered to step aside from the final episode of "Good Omens," ensuring the production could proceed and the narrative could reach its intended conclusion.
In December 2023, Prime Video renewed "Good Omens" for a final season, wrapping up the tale of angel Aziraphale (portrayed by Sheen) and demon Crowley (brought to life by Tennant), whose unlikely partnership aims to thwart the apocalypse. Originally intended as a limited series, its resounding success paved the way for a second season, which premiered in July 2023.
Executive producing the final season/episode will be Rob Wilkins of Narrativia, representing Pratchett's estate, alongside Josh Cole, head of comedy at BBC Studios Productions. "Good Omens" hails from Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios Productions, and Narrativia.
Additionally, Prime Video boasts another Gaiman adaptation, "Anansi Boys," in its lineup. Although production has wrapped, a premiere date remains pending, likely to be rescheduled for 2025. Both "Anansi Boys" and "Good Omens" were born from a first-look deal between Gaiman and Amazon, prompting The Hollywood Reporter to inquire about the current status of their partnership.
