Good Omens Halts Production After Neil Gaiman Assault Allegations

The much-anticipated third and concluding season of the beloved Prime Video fantasy series "Good Omens" has unfortunately hit a sudden halt, as per media outlets. This production pause, which had been actively filming in the picturesque landscapes of Scotland, comes on the heels of serious allegations of sexual misconduct levied against the series' creator, Neil Gaiman, whom he has steadfastly denied.

As the cameras go silent, rumors swirl that "Good Omens" may undergo a transformative shift in its production, with Deadline breaking the news first. Requests for comment from Prime Video representatives were met with silence, mirroring a broader silence gripping the industry.

In a similar vein, Disney too paused development on an adaptation of Gaiman's beloved novel "The Graveyard Book," with esteemed director Marc Forster attached, mere days ago, as per IndieWire's report. And prior to this, Netflix's decision not to renew "Dead Boy Detectives," another Gaiman-inspired comic adaptation, for a second season in August, seemed to signal a shifting tide.

The allegations against Gaiman, the mastermind behind modern literary landmarks such as "American Gods," "Coraline," "Neverwhere," and "Stardust," emerged in July like a storm cloud, with Tortoise Media revealing that four women had accused him of sexual assault, followed by a fifth woman later coming forward. While two of these women, known as K and Scarlett in the narrative, acknowledged consensual relationships with the author, they painted a harrowing picture of instances that were anything but consensual.

"Good Omens," with its iconic duo of David Tennant's Crowley and Michael Sheen's Aziraphale, boasted a star-studded supporting cast including Jon Hamm, Miranda Richardson, Maggie Service, Nina Sosanya, and Shelley Conn. The second season, premiering in July 2023, found our odd couple embroiled in a mission to conceal Gabriel (Hamm) from both heaven and hell until he could reclaim his lost memories.

Adding another layer of intrigue to the story, just before Season 3's anticipated production kick-off, co-showrunner Douglas Mackinnon announced his departure from the series on social media, stating poignantly, "I'm not with this show anymore," leaving fans and industry insiders alike wondering what the future holds for "Good Omens."
