Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer Makes Video Game History

Published: May 09 2025

Last week, the highly anticipated launch of "Grand Theft Auto VI" suffered yet another delay, but on Tuesday, fans were finally treated to the unveiling of the game's second trailer. It has been an eternity of nearly 12 years since "GTA V" graced our screens in September 2013. The initial teaser for "GTA VI," released in 2023, already whetted gamers' appetites, but if any further proof were needed of their eager anticipation, consider this: Rockstar Games, the mastermind behind the series, revealed that the latest trailer amassed an astonishing 475 million views within its first day alone.

According to "The Hollywood Reporter," this figure surpasses the initial "GTA VI" trailer's views by more than fivefold, despite the earlier video being a YouTube exclusive. The latest trailer has not only captivated audiences but has also set new records, as attested by Rockstar themselves. "The company boasts that this trailer launch stands as the biggest video debut of all time," noted "The Hollywood Reporter," comparing it to the film realm where the "Deadpool & Wolverine" trailer garnered 365 million views in its first 24 hours, and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" premiered with over 200 million views.

Moreover, Spotify reports a phenomenal 182,000 percent surge in downloads for "Hot Together" by The Pointer Sisters, the song featured in the trailer, since its preview. Initially slated for a 2025 release, "Grand Theft Auto VI" was pushed back to May 26, 2026 last week, much to the disappointment of avid gamers.

In a statement, Rockstar reassured fans, "With each game we release, our goal has always been to exceed your expectations, and 'Grand Theft Auto VI' is no exception. We hope you understand that we require this additional time to deliver the quality you expect and deserve." Patience, they say, is a virtue, and now the pressure is mounting on Rockstar to live up to the sky-high expectations they've set.
