Kevin McKidd, star of the hit series Grey's Anatomy and Six Four, will take center stage in the heartwarming 90-minute CBBC special, The Primrose Railway Children, airing on BBC's dedicated kids channel. Production for this project will commence this month, capturing the picturesque landscapes of Glasgow, the Scottish Highlands, and the charming heritage railways that dot the region. BBC Studios Kids and Family Productions announced on Thursday that the story follows Phoebe, her elder siblings Becks and Perry, and their mother, who, having enjoyed a comfortable life in Glasgow, are suddenly faced with a move to the remote highlands of Scotland.

Described as "a story about growing up, being displaced, and finding your way in a community that seems alien," The Primrose Railway Children promises to be a must-watch for families. McKidd will bring to life the role of father Rob Robinson, alongside Nina Toussaint-White, portraying his wife Sarah Robinson. The young trio of Phoebe, Becks, and Perry will be portrayed by up-and-coming British talents Ava McCarthy, Ida Brooke, and Tylan Bailey.

"Reading Tom's captivating script was a pure delight. It beautifully encapsulates the essence and emotions of the original The Railway Children, a film that holds a special place in my heart. So, returning to Scotland to film this remake was a no-brainer," said McKidd. "I'm eagerly anticipating stepping into the shoes of Rob and reliving this British classic with such a stellar cast. It's sure to be a cinematic joyride for the entire family."

Tali Walters, the creative director at BBC Studios Kids and Family Productions, expressed her pride in bringing this ambitious production to life in Scotland, a locale rich in both locations and talent. "We're thrilled to share this heartwarming tale with families across the UK and beyond," she added.

Directed by Julian Kemp, The Primrose Railway Children is a production of BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions, led by Walters as the creative director, with Alison Davis as the executive producer and John McKay as the producer. International distribution will be handled by BBC Studios, ensuring that this charming tale reaches a wider audience.
