Grey's Anatomy writer who faked cancer speaks out after docuseries about her lies

Elisabeth R. Finch, the ex-scribe of the hit medical drama 'Grey's Anatomy,' who fabricated a cancer narrative for years, meticulously orchestrating sick leave and even shaving her scalp, issued a heartfelt apology on Tuesday, coinciding with the release of a three-part exposé titled 'Anatomy of Lies' on Peacock. "The unadorned truth stands: no alibi, no rationale—my fabrications shall never be condoned," Finch shared on social media. "They have etched a path of trauma—fear, agony, fury, tears, and wasted time. Accountability, in every fiber of my being, supersedes all. I pledge to mend what I can, to transcend my darkest deeds. I comprehend the arduous journey ahead for trust to resurface. I'm prepared to toil and bide my time."

Having confessed in December 2022, after her deception unraveled and severed her ties with ABC's flagship show, Finch acknowledged the profound hurt she inflicted. "I succumbed to the insidious addiction of deceit, betraying and scarring those dearest to me—family, friends, and colleagues alike," she lamented. "I strive to atone and convey my sincere contrition when the time is right, cognizant that healing may be forever elusive for some. My mental health journey spans nearly three years, and I relentlessly strive for a life rooted in truth above all else."

Her apology, though earnest, she admitted, falls short of the enormity of her actions. "My past words hold no credibility; my lies encompassed real-life calamities that shattered countless lives," she confessed. "'I'm sorry' seems paltry in comparison to my misdeeds, yet it embodies my deepest remorse."

Moreover, Finch disclosed a personal tragedy, revealing that her romantic entanglement with a woman and her five children ended in disarray due to her continued deceit. "The pinnacle of my errors—beyond falsifying cancer—was accepting Jennifer's proposal without honesty," she divulged.

In 'Anatomy of Lies,' Finch's former colleague, Andy Reaser, painted a vivid picture of her elaborate ruse, remarking, "It was akin to a theatrical performance. She arrived at work, bald, with a pallid complexion, resembling someone who'd endured the rigors of chemotherapy. Crackers and ginger ale were her staples, punctuated by simulated nausea breaks."

'Anatomy of Lies' is now streaming exclusively on Peacock.
