Grey's Anatomy's Caterina Scorsone, E.R. Fightmaster Confirm Relationship Years After Onscreen Romance

Published: Mar 24 2026

Caterina Scorsone and E.R. Fightmaster are carrying their love story from the set of "Grey's Anatomy" into the real world. Three years after their characters in the Shonda Rhimes series shared a brief romance, the pair confirmed their off-screen bond during a romantic outing in Los Angeles on March 23rd.

During their lunch at Highly Likely cafe, Caterina, who has portrayed Dr. Amelia Shepherd since season seven of "Grey's," donned a green T-shirt with the word "Oui" emblazoned in white on the front, along with a matching baseball cap, jeans, and white sneakers. E.R., on the other hand, sported brown slacks, a white button-up top, and black Adidas sneakers. The 33-year-old, who played Dr. Kai Bartley for seasons 18 and 19 of the series, completed their look with sunglasses and a brown baseball cap.

Although Caterina—who shares Eliza, 13, Pippa, 9, and Lucky, 6, with ex Rob Giles—and E.R. have only recently confirmed their romance by holding hands as they left the restaurant, they have remained close since their brief time sharing the screen in 2022. In fact, the duo has been spotted together periodically over the years, including at an Angel City FC game in 2023 and even Elton John's EJAF Oscars 2026 after-party earlier this month.

As for their characters' romantic history on the show? Back in season 19 of the series, Amelia and Kai had a short-lived romance with a devastating ending. Ultimately, E.R.'s Kai left the series for a job in London—but not before dropping a gut-punch on Amelia, who was balancing their long-distance relationship while coparenting son Scout with ex Dr. Atticus "Link" Lincoln.

"From the minute I told you about London, which is the biggest career opportunity of my life," Kai—who had been a researcher on the Alzheimer's cure team run by Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo)—tells Amelia before their departure. "You have made it about you."

Kai continues, "I love you, but—" To which Amelia interrupts them, saying, "'But.' That's what people say before they abandon you."

The scene paints a vivid picture of their characters' complex emotions and ultimately leaves viewers on a cliffhanger, much like their real-life romance.
