For Grimes, the moment has arrived to candidly discuss her parenting journey alongside Elon Musk. In an interview with Time magazine, published on Monday, the acclaimed singer peeled back the curtain on the much-talked-about Oval Office visit by her ex-partner Musk, who brought their four-year-old son, X, to the White House.
"It was like, 'Grimes slams back,' 'Grimes speaks her mind,'" Grimes told Time, referring to the media frenzy surrounding her son's appearance. "Sure, it was just a reply. But what I truly desire is for people to refrain from plastering images of my child everywhere." She continued, "Fame is something one should willingly embrace. Of course, things are as they are. But I would deeply appreciate it if this could stop. All I can do is ask, so here I am, asking."
Grimes further expressed her thoughts on her eldest child's White House visit on X, formally known as Twitter, stating that their namesake son "shouldn't be in the public eye like this. I didn't see it coming, thanks for letting me know. But I'm relieved he was well-mannered. Sigh."
The pair, Grimes and Musk, have long been at odds publicly over their parenting philosophies. Last year, Grimes took to social media to voice her struggles in a custody battle with Musk, highlighting the challenges she faced in a state with what she deemed inadequate mothers' rights.
"I spent a year entangled in a custody battle, with my Instagram posts and modeling career used against me as reasons I shouldn't have my kids. Fighting this battle caused me to drift apart from the love of my life, as he became a stranger to me," the singer penned on Musk's platform, X. She added, "With a fraction of his resources (or IQ/strategy experience), I went through a period where I didn't see one of my babies for five months."
Grimes shares three children with the Tesla co-founder: X Æ A-Xii, 4, Exa Dark Sideræl, 3, and Techno Mechanicus, 2. Musk is the father of at least 12 publicly acknowledged children. Alongside his three children with Grimes, he has two with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis and six with his ex-wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson. Tragically, Musk and Wilson lost their firstborn child at just 10 weeks old in 2002.
Recently, conservative influencer and columnist Ashley St. Clair claimed on social media that Musk is also the father of her baby, born last year. Musk has yet to respond to these allegations.
