Hailey Bieber's journey to motherhood was anything but smooth. The founder of Rhode faced one of the most significant milestones in her life when she delivered her and Justin Bieber's son, Jack Blues Bieber, in August 2024. Though undeniably a high point, it was also fraught with challenges. "Giving birth was the toughest endeavor I've ever embarked upon," Hailey confessed in a Vogue cover story interview published on May 20th, revealing that she had put in every ounce of effort to prepare herself meticulously beforehand. "I was completely dedicated. I did everything possible. Physically, I felt stronger than ever."
Despite months of rigorous workouts and pelvic-floor therapy paving the way for baby Jack's arrival, the 28-year-old eventually had to undergo a medically induced delivery. During her 18-hour-long labor, doctors employed a Foley balloon—a catheter filled with saline and inserted into the uterus to stimulate contractions—making the experience even more grueling.
"It was absolutely surreal," Hailey recounted. "It was no picnic. They broke my waters. I went into labor and labored for hours. No epidural, nothing to ease the pain."
However, the real fear and discomfort emerged after the couple, who tied the knot in 2018, welcomed their bundle of joy. Hailey revealed that she experienced significant post-delivery bleeding, "which was truly alarming."
"I place my complete trust in my doctor," she continued. "I had faith that she would never let anything untoward happen to me. But the bleeding was severe, and the reality of postpartum hemorrhage-related fatalities loomed. The thought couldn't be brushed aside."
While doctors administered various medications to address the model's postpartum hemorrhage, Hailey recounted the heart-wrenching moment when Jack was whisked away from her amidst the turmoil.
"You start feeling utterly panicked," Hailey noted. "I longed to hold my baby. I wanted to be with him."
Fortunately, the doctors soon inserted a Jada device, a vacuum-induced hemorrhage control device, successfully stemming the bleeding. Even after enduring such a harrowing experience, Hailey emphasized that she would undergo it all again—albeit, one child at a time.
As for Justin, he was awestruck by the entire process. "My woman is a goddess. A superhero. I could never do what she did," he thought, according to Hailey's recount.
While Hailey was living the dream days by the side of the "Baby" singer, online rumors about their relationship troubles persisted and couldn't be ignored.
"Being postpartum was the most delicate phase I've ever navigated," Hailey elaborated. "Discovering a new facet of myself was incredibly challenging."
"On top of that, scrolling through the internet daily and encountering comments like, 'They're getting divorced' or 'They're unhappy,' was utterly mind-boggling. I can't even fathom explaining it. It's a surreal life to lead," she concluded.
