Haley Joel Osment was apprehended last week amidst allegations of public intoxication in the picturesque California resort hub of Mammoth Lakes. A spokesperson for the Mammoth Lakes Police Department affirmed to Entertainment Weekly that on April 8, Osment was charged with suspected public intoxication as well as possession of an undisclosed controlled substance. Dubbed an "unruly skier" in a press bulletin issued by the Mammoth Lakes PD, Osment was detained by ski patrol until approximately 2 p.m., when law enforcement officers arrived at the location.

Sergeant Jason Heilman of the Mammoth Lakes PD revealed to EW that Osment is no longer in detention. Requests for comment from Osment's representatives remained unanswered at the time of publication.

Renowned for his pivotal role in M. Night Shyamalan's 1999 mystical thriller The Sixth Sense, which garnered him an Academy Award nomination at the tender age of 11, Osment has maintained a consistent presence in both film and television. He has recently starred in Zoe Kravitz's directorial debut, Blink Twice, and the FX comedy What We Do In the Shadows.

This is not the first instance where Osment has found himself at odds with the law. In 2018, he was involved in a heated altercation at a Las Vegas airport, where he reportedly lost his temper at an airline agent after missing a flight. Police were summoned, but Osment had already left the scene by the time they arrived. He reportedly returned to make verbal threats, only to leave again before police returned.

In August 2006, Osment was charged with DUI and marijuana possession following a car accident that left him with a broken rib. He eventually pleaded no contest, receiving a three-year probation sentence and being mandated to attend both an alcohol rehabilitation and education program, as well as over two dozen Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Earlier this year, Osment's sister, actress Emily Osment, disclosed that her brother had lost his home in the devastating Eaton Fire that swept through the Altadena area of Los Angeles. In an Instagram post dated January 26, Emily expressed her heartbreak for her parents and brother, urging her followers to "donate, show up, and be there for those who are struggling right now."
