Halle Bailey has embarked on a legal battle against her former partner, DDG. The "Little Mermaid" star, who co-parents her 17-month-old son Halo with the rapper behind "Moonwalking in Calabasas," secured a temporary domestic violence restraining order against DDG on May 13, according to legal documents procured by E! News.
In her Los Angeles-filed request, Halle vividly recounted a January altercation where DDG, whose real name is Daryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., allegedly slammed her face against a car's steering wheel, leaving her with arm bruises and a chipped tooth. Accompanying photos of her injuries painted a graphic picture of the assault. "I ceased resisting due to the overwhelming pain," she penned in the order, further stating, "Darryl fails to grasp the repercussions of his actions on Halo. He frequently verbally abuses me in Halo's presence."
Halle also detailed several other alleged confrontations with DDG, including receiving a "menacing text" in March after he purportedly entered her home while she was absent. Days subsequent, he allegedly locked her out of her residence, stole her phone, and threw it out of his car window as he sped away.
Moreover, Halle asserted that DDG routinely "slanders me to his millions of fans" across YouTube and Twitch, leading to an influx of "threats and hatred" on her social media platforms. "I've exhausted all avenues to avoid court proceedings," she lamented. "I've even tried to appease Darryl by granting him access to Halo, despite his infrequent presence in Halo's life and his tendency to leave Halo with his mother. I've accommodated his visits at the last minute, regardless of my location. I've come to realize that appeasement is futile. I can't endure this abuse any longer. I refuse to live this way anymore."
E! News has reached out to representatives for both Halle and DDG but has yet to receive a response.
In March, DDG publicly accused the "Color Purple" actress of impeding his access to their child. "I dread the day Halo thinks, 'My dad's never around,'" he shared during a livestream on his YouTube channel. "That's my primary concern. I was more irritated than anything else."
Conversely, when announcing their split months prior, DDG painted a more amicable picture of their breakup. "After much contemplation and heart-to-heart talks, Halle and I have decided to part ways," he stated on his Instagram Story in October. "This choice wasn't easy, but we believe it's the best course for both of us. I cherish our shared memories and love."
He continued, "Despite our relationship's evolution, our love remains profound and genuine. We're still best friends and deeply care for each other. As we embark on our individual journeys and fulfill our roles as co-parents, we hold dear the bond we've forged and the beautiful memories we've created."
Post-split, Halle emphasized her renewed focus on nurturing positive relationships and prioritizing her mental health. "This new chapter in my life revolves around self-love, redirecting the love I pour into others back into myself," the 25-year-old told E! News in October. "I believe that one must fill themselves first to love others fully."
She added, "Take my son Halo, for instance. I want to ensure I'm fully present for him. I consider it vital to our self-worth." Halle even waxed poetic about Halo, sharing, "The quintessence of motherhood lies in knowing you're loved unconditionally by this magnificent being entrusted to you. He serves as a reminder to continue loving yourself, recognizing your importance and uniqueness through his profound need for you."
