In 2003, Adrien Brody etched an unforgettable, albeit infamous, moment into Oscars lore by spontaneously kissing Halle Berry on stage. This Sunday, however, Berry had her chance to return the favor, albeit playfully, on the Oscars red carpet. As the Oscar-winner for "Monster's Ball," Berry stole a quick kiss from Brody before the ceremony commenced. The duo then shared a hearty laugh, joined by Brody's companion, Georgina Chapman.
It was during his acceptance speech for Best Actor, portraying a Holocaust survivor in "The Piano," that Brody first surprised Berry with an unprompted kiss. Berry, who had herself won Best Actress the previous year in 2002, seemed momentarily startled as she was swept into his embrace.
Posting a video of their latest lip-lock, Berry captioned it with a winking emoji, playfully stating, "I had to get some payback." On Sunday, Brody secured his second Best Actor Oscar, this time for his portrayal of the fictional Hungarian architect László Tóth in "The Brutalist." Meanwhile, Berry remains the sole Black woman to have won an Oscar for Best Actress.
Speaking recently on Trevor Noah's podcast "What Now?," Berry expressed her hope, saying, "I hope this year, someone stands next to me. This year, I hope it happens. Because I'm tired of occupying that space alone."
