A harrowing security scare recently unfolded at the prestigious Windsor Castle grounds, where the royal family, including Kate Middleton and Prince William along with their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 6, reside. Thames Valley Police confirmed to NBC News that an intrusion attempt was thwarted on June 1, within the sprawling 13-acre estate.
According to authorities, who shared a statement with People, "A man breached the restricted perimeter of Windsor Castle shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday. He was swiftly confronted and apprehended by Metropolitan Police officers before he could venture into the inner sanctum of the castle."
Indeed, Thames Valley Police further verified that the individual, described to NBC News as a man in his thirties, was detained and has since been released on bail. The police elaborated, "He was arrested on suspicion of trespassing on a secured site and possession of Class A drugs. Our investigation into the incident remains ongoing."
This marks the second such attempt to breach the estate's security since William and Kate relocated from Kensington Palace in 2022. Last October, police confirmed to NBC News that two vehicles were stolen from the property during a burglary. The perpetrators reportedly gained entry through a farm building and made away with a black Isuzu pickup truck and a red quad bike.
Prior to the royal family's move to Windsor, another chilling incident occurred in April 2022. An unidentified man, posing as a priest, managed to spend the evening indulging in food and beverages at the estate and was even granted accommodation within the property. Recalling the event, a Thames Valley Police spokesperson stated in a 2022 announcement to NBC, "We received a report about an unauthorized individual at Victoria Barracks in Sheet Street, Windsor. Officers responded promptly and removed the individual from the premises. No further action was deemed necessary at that time."
These incidents underscore the delicate balance between maintaining the privacy and security of the royal family while ensuring the safety of their cherished home.
