At the glamorous premiere of Apple TV+'s "Chief of War" in the picturesque setting of Kapolei, Hawaii, Jason Momoa shared an exclusive with Extra, revealing that his son, Nakoa-Wolf, secured his significant new role in "Dune: Part Three" all on his own merits. Momoa, who portrayed the character of Duncan Idaho in Denis Villeneuve's acclaimed first "Dune" film, has already confirmed his return for the upcoming sequel, albeit taking a break from "Dune: Part Two."
In June, exciting news broke that Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, the teenage offspring of Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet, had been cast alongside "Silo" star Ida Brooke in "Dune 3." The young actors are poised to portray Leto II and Ghanima, the twins of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya).
"He's in for a stark reality check," Momoa remarked about his son's casting. "He's venturing into the professional world for the very first time. It's bound to be a rewarding experience. He accomplished this independently. I refuse to intervene; he did it all by himself, and I couldn't be prouder."
Momoa further elaborated, "As a parent, you aspire for your children to surpass your achievements, and I genuinely believe he has. I couldn't have pulled off what he's doing at his age. There's no chance I could have sat in a room with Denis Villeneuve and held my ground. I was on 'Baywatch' at 19. He's 16, and he's holding his own with Denis Villeneuve."
Concluding his thoughts, Momoa said, "We've raised him beautifully. We've nurtured our children... It's about being loved and feeling confident in oneself... That's who he is. He's incredibly self-assured."
Momoa walked the red carpet of "Chief of War" accompanied by Nakoa-Wolf and his daughter Lola Iolani. "Dune: Part Three" will adapt Frank Herbert's second novel in the literary series, "Dune Messiah," focusing on Paul "Muad'Dib" Atreides' reign as emperor.
In the 2021 film "Dune," Duncan Idaho served as the swordmaster and mentor to Paul Atreides, ultimately sacrificing himself towards the end to allow Paul and his mother, Jessica, to escape the Sardaukar soldiers. In Herbert's books, Duncan returns as a clone. However, it remains uncertain whether Villeneuve will adopt a similar narrative direction for "Dune: Part Three."
