Jenna Bush Hager harbors a playful grievance that she just can't seem to shake off. During an episode of the "Today" show on August 20th, the co-host couldn't resist taking a lighthearted jab at her cohost and dear friend, Savannah Guthrie, for excluding her from her 2014 wedding to Michael Feldman. With a mischievous grin, Jenna recounted, "She insists we weren't friends back then."
Savannah, exasperated yet laughing, replied, "No, we were friends, but it was an intimate affair—let's not revisit this!" The two women chuckled together before Jenna, now 43, emphasized that they had never addressed this on air before.
To add a touch of awkward humor to the situation, Savannah had actually been present at Jenna's 2008 wedding to Henry Hager, albeit not as a guest but as an NBC reporter. A year prior to Jenna joining the network, Savannah had covered the event despite not receiving a formal invitation.
Savannah joked about their past "beefs" but genuinely cherished their current bond. "If we were tying the knot today," the 53-year-old quipped, "we'd definitely be each other's bridesmaids."
The "Today" cohosts have always been open about the significance of their friendship. Reflecting on their early days, Savannah shared in 2019, "We knew each other, but not well enough. Had I known you'd become one of my lifelong best friends, I would have sent you an invite. But I didn't foresee that."
Fortunately, their friendship has remained unscathed by wedding invite snubs, especially as they've practically raised their families together. Savannah's children, Vale, 11, and Charley, 8, are inseparable from Jenna's kids, Mila, 12, Poppy, 10, and Hal, 6.
"We both adore that our friendship has transcended generations," Savannah gushed in May. "It's about so much more than just us."
Their bond is so tight that Jenna serves as godmother to Savannah's daughter Vale, while Savannah reciprocates the honor for Jenna's son Hal. "I felt incredibly special," Savannah added. "It's the utmost compliment one could receive."
