Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone Are Making Miss Piggy Movie

The iconic Muppet diva and love interest of Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, is finally getting her star moment, thanks to a movie that's in the works, revealed by none other than Jennifer Lawrence herself. The Hunger Games actress shared on the Nov. 5 Las Culturistas podcast hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers that she and her longtime BFF Emma Stone are producing the film with Tony winner Cole Escola of Broadway's Oh, Mary!, who is set to write the screenplay.

"I don't know if I can announce this, but I am just going to," Jennifer said. "Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it."

And Jennifer and Emma won't just be behind-the-scenes. When asked if they'd also be featured in the film, the No Hard Feelings actress responded, "I think so. We have to."

The same evening, Jennifer spoke with Jimmy Fallon about how the idea came to be. While 2025 marked the puppets' 70th anniversary, the idea actually began brewing five years ago during lockdown. "One of my good friends who is not in the industry—it was also kind of around cancel culture, both things were kind of happening at once," Jennifer reflected. "She was like, 'You know, it would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled.'"

She continued to laugh from the crowd, "And that is not the plot necessarily, but it got the wheels turning, like, 'Wait, there hasn't actually been a feminist Miss Piggy-starring movie.'" While she dubbed herself as the "ideas guy," she noted that fellow Oscar winner Emma is the "shark" she needed to make the idea a reality—and become the first time the pals have costarred together.

While no release date has been shared yet, the film will also be the first time Miss Piggy's individual story is told since she first appeared on The Muppet Show in 1976. But it's not the only Muppet project in the works: In September, Disney+ announced that The Muppet Show will return in honor of the show's 50th anniversary for a special television event in 2026 featuring Sabrina Carpenter. In the announcement post, they wrote, "This brand-new installment from The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures will feature Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and the gang as they return to the Muppet Theatre to put on a variety show filled with music, comedy, and plenty of chaos."
