Jenny Han is embarking on yet another round of enhancements to the Cousins' abode, as the highly anticipated third season of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" inches closer to its July 16th premiere on Prime Video. In an interview published on July 8th with Elite Daily, the author intriguingly hinted that the series' concluding chapter might deviate slightly from her cherished book trilogy, sparking a touch of unpredictability.
"I've always had a clear vision for how I wanted the books to conclude," Han revealed. "However, with the show, I entered with an open heart and mind, eager to witness the unique magic that would unfold on screen with fresh eyes. I'm someone who thrives on constant evolution."
Indeed, the 40-year-old author gained fresh insights while filming the impending season, which promises to delve deeper into the enthralling love triangle involving Lola Tung's Belly Conklin and the Fisher brothers, Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). Although Belly ultimately chooses to continue her romantic journey with Conrad in the book's climax, Han and the cast have suggested that the show might embark on a slightly different path.
"Fans may wonder, 'Why change something that already works so well?'" Han continued. "But for me, there's always room for improvement. This approach permeates every aspect of my work. Naturally, I entered this story with the aspiration to enhance it further and explore uncharted territories."
While she remained tight-lipped about whether these impending alterations would sway Belly's ultimate decision, Han made it clear that she was paving the way for fresh narratives. In fact, the author introduced several new faces in the third season's trailer, notably Conrad's latest medical school friend.
According to Han, the elder Fisher brother stands to gain the most from this character addition. "He's ventured out to California to start anew," she explained. "In this fresh environment, he can finally embody a version of himself that he's long struggled to present to those who know him best, who've witnessed his darkest, most painful moments. He's now in a wonderful place, surrounded by friends who inspire him to be the person he's always wanted to be."
The intricate drama of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" returns to Prime Video on July 16th, promising a season filled with unexpected twists and turns.
